It’s Dr. Drai. TODAY, let’s discuss how to get to the career in medicine that you dreamed of. As doctors, I’m sure we all remember our why – why we went into medicine, who inspired us, and some of the phenomenal patients that we’ve been privileged to treat. But, there’s a flaw in the fairytale versus the reality of medicine, especially this day and age. Managed Care, insurance providers, hospital administration, Intellectual property issues, charting all night, and lack of freedom (to name a few) have been crushing blows to our medical reality and many doctors are looking to practice medicine on their own terms.
So where do you begin? And what steps do you take to get to the life you dreamed of? Is it even possible? The simple answer is, yes it’s possible to have a career in medicine that you love and I’m going to tell you how:
It takes a lot of hard work but the path is pretty simple. You have to take the 5 steps from Passion to Action!
- Passion – Consider what you are passionate about and how you can use the passion to help others and create wealth.
- Mindset – Get your mindset in order, eliminating limiting beliefs and barriers that will keep you from reaching your goals.
- Understand your Why –Knowing why you do what you do is crucial because your “Why” is what keeps you going during the hard times. Our why is usually based on some lesson or hardship from our past combined with our natural gifts. Often times as doctors, we desire the freedom to have the time to do what you love and spend with who you love as well as leave a legacy behind.
- Hire a Coach – It is crucial to have a coach to help you streamline the process, encourage and inspire you, and help you avoid pitfalls. Sure, there’s lots of information out there but NOTHING takes the place of a good business coach.
- Take action – And most importantly, take action. Do something every day that propels your business forward and plants you firmly in the direction of your dreams.
